On May 2, 2012 Thalle Construction Co., Inc. has kicked off its New Ragged Mountain Dam Project located in Charlottesville, VA. The project was bid in December 2011 and Thalle was apparent low bidder for $21,527,750.50. Thalle received the Notice of Award (NOA) on March 20, 2012 followed by the Notice of Proceed (NTP) on April 23, 2012.
Project Location
The Ragged Mountain Reservoir System is located in Albemarle County approximately 4 miles west of the City of Charlottesville in Virginia. The dams are currently operated by the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority and are part of a raw water system that serves the urban population of the region, including the University of Virginia.
Project Scope
Construction of a new dam and spillway downstream of the existing dam, demolition and removal of portions of the existing dams and appurtenant structures, construction of a rock tunnel, foundation grouting, improvements to the I-64 embankment, slip lining the culvert beneath the I-64 embankment, and other work items.
Project Duration
Project duration is 22 months.
